Earl Wild shows great skill, understanding, and almost paradoxically, invention in remaining inside the composer’s keyboard style. In most cases one feels that if Rachmaninov had transcribed these particular songs, he would have produced results close to Wild’s. These songs are transformed into perfectly convincing piano works and are most beautifully played. The tone of Mr.Wild’s Baldwin piano is faithfully reproduced.
Max Harrison, Gramophone, December 1982.
